Famed for rich mineral deposits, the town of Gua lies in the Pashchimi Singhbhum Dist. of Jharkhand State. The place is famed as a mining township and is part of Chotanagpur Plateau. The mines of Gua are managed by Steel Authority of India Ltd. and are connected to Burnpur IISCO. Though a small region still it plays an important role in the polity and economy of Jharkhand. . There are numerous private companies like Adhunik, Jindal Steel, Rungta etc. that are making vast income from this region. however they are not paying attention to health, education and other provisions for the general public.

Geography in Gua

Gua is geographically located at 22.2° North and 85.38° East. The average elevation of the town is 1427 feet or 435 meters. The South Karo is the main river which provides water to the residents of Gua. Summer months witness a minimum temperature of 25 degree Celsius and a maximum temperature of 45 degree Celsius. In the winter season the minimum temperature is between 10 to 15 degrees while maximum temperature remains amid 26 and 29 degrees.

According to the census of 2001, the population of Gua was 10891. Males form 52 percent of the total population, whereas the females comprise 48 percent. The avg. literacy rate of Gua is 63 percent which is greater as compared to the national avg. i.e. 59.5 percent with female and male literacy being 50 percent and 74 percent respectively. The percentage of populace which belongs to the age group of less than 6 years is 14 percent. The residents of Gua are called “Ho People”, however Oriya people are the second largest dwellers of Gua.
